This study aims to identify the role of mathematical representation as a mediator between mathematical belief and problem solving. A quasi-experimental design was developed that included 426 Form 1 secondary school students. Respondents comprised 209 and 217 students in the treatment and control groups, respectively. SPSS 23.0, ANATES 4 and Amos 18 were used for data analysis. Findings indicated that mathematical representation plays a significant role as mediator between mathematical belief and arithmetic problem solving. The Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach successfully increased the arithmetic problem-solving ability of students.
This research aims is to produce a learning device based on 21st century skills with the implementation of problem-based learning to increase the critical thinking skill of students on polyhedron for grade 8th junior high school. The type of this research is development research using Plomp’s model, there are (1) preliminary research phase; (2) the prototype phase; and (3) assessment phase. The results of this research are a learning device based on 21st century skill with the implementation of problem-based learning to increase the critical thinking skill of students on polyhedron for grade 8th junior high school. The results of the syllabus, RPP, LKPD validation and critical thinking skills show valid and very valid criteria with values of 3.19; 3.32; 3.26; and 3.13. In the final product test phase, learning devices were used through pre-experimental research to see the increase in critical thinking skills and there was an increase in the critical thinking skill of students using learning devices. This means that the learning device based on 21st century skill with the implementation of problem-based learning to increase the critical thinking skill of students on polyhedron for grade 8th junior high school has been valid, practical, and effective.
This study aims to improve the learning process and the student’s mathematical problem solving skill by applying Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This type of research is classroom action research with two cycles. This research was conducted in collaboration between researcher and teacher of mathematics. Subjects were students of class SMPN 9 Pekanbaru. Study was conducted in the odd semester of academic year 2019/2020. The research instrument consists of mathematical learning instruments and instruments to collect data. Mathematical learning instruments used in this study are syllabus, lesson plans, and activity sheets. Data collection instruments used in this study is observation sheets and mathematical problem solving tests. Data analysis technique in this study is analysis descriptive narrative of qualitative data and descriptive statistical analysis of quantitative data. The result of this study showed that the implementation of PBL improved the learning process and the student’s mathematical problem solving skill. The student’s average value in cycle I which is 70,27 had improved to 84,07 in cycle II. The improvement also found in the indicator average value in understanding the problem (94,99), planning a solution (69,71), implementing the pland (82,77), and checking again (54,85). This study concludes that the implementation of PBL improved the student’s mathematical problem solving skill at class SMPN 9 Pekanbaru.
This research is aimed at developing computer-based media for mathematics learning. This media used interactive model to help students understand the topic of lines, angles and rectangular. This development research applied development model by Borg and Gallmodified by Sugiyono. The study began by finding the potentials materials and its problems followed by astudy of literature. The subject in this research is line, angle and rectangular, including rectangle, square and trapezium. Product design was done through two stages: paper-based design and computer-based. The applications used for product design are Microsoft Frontpage, Microsoft Power Point and Photoshop. Learning media were validated by three experts or validators and were revised based on the input from the validators. The revised learning media were tested on two stages: a small group test consisting of five respondens and a large grouptest consisting of forty respondens. Based on the analysis of data and discussion, it can be concluded that computer-based mediafor mathematics learning is valid with an average score of 3.17 on aspect of materials and 3.18 from aspects of media. This computer-based media formathematicslearning also had practicalities with an average score of 97,92% on a small group test and 99,22% in the large group test..
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
