Modernization provides various changes in the fields of education, economy, society, and culture. The impacts that arise can endanger the existence of democracy in the community. Thus, writing this article aims to explain the influence of modernization on the democracy that has lived in society. This study uses a qualitative method using a literature study involving several sources such as information contained in journals, books, and some information from news websites. Based on the results obtained, the authors conclude that modernization encourages people to put more importance on effectiveness and efficiency in solving a case without paying attention to the decisions of others, technological advances also give rise to the nature of capitalism that is not by the concept of democracy, as well as the incoming culture due to modernization. Also sometimes not by democratic principles. However, this impact can be avoided by starting democratic education early, implementing a family-friendly economy through the concept of democracy, as well as filtering out inappropriate cultures that are not applied in social life.
