The Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education always encourages lecturers to publish their scientific works in open access publications. This study explores the meaning of open access publications from the experiences of UIN lecturers. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to identify the interpretation and meaning of lecturers on open access journal publications. This study found that lecturers know about publishing in open access journals and their advantages. They choose reputable journals in their scientific field as their first reference because the journals that fall into this category have a high level of readability and citation. However, the informants stated that they were also pragmatic; they will reconsider the decision to publish in a reputable and open access journal if the publication fee is deemed too expensive. This study uses Hall's meanings concept, whose application is not only to explore the views of lecturers on open access publications but also to explore the actions they take so that their writings can be included in open access publications. Here, the researcher finds the emerging theme that is the importance of collaboration. It is as a way to overcome barriers to open access publishing and also as the key to the productivity of writing articles in academic journals. This study highlights several important themes related to collaboration. The integration of Islamic knowledge with scientific disciplines is an interesting issue when discussing the benefits of cooperation. The results of this study can provide insight into the meaning of open access journals published by lecturers and how they overcome the barriers in this matter. The researcher suggests using a quantitative approach based on our data for future research.
Andragogy is an education philosophy that refers to the method or the art of teaching and guiding adults. Popularized by Malcolm Knowles, the point of andragogical learning process relies on the view that adults are individuals who (1) are independent, (2) have life experiences that can be the foundation of learning, (3) have a desire to learn, (4) have a learning orientation appropriate to their life, and (5) have the motivation to learn. The academic library users are the academic student are an adults who has their preference on style of study, their specific needs and their own anxiety and. It is important for academic library to know preference on study style of their users, so that they can build academic to become an ideal learning spaces the adult. Becoming the center of Universitas Indonesia student Activities (especially on the learning activity) it is important for the Universitas Indonesia Library to understand the needs, characteristics and anxieties felt by the University of Indonesia students. Through this article, the authors will examine the model of adult learning of University of Indonesia students and also explained the development of Library University of Indonesia in supporting the process of adult learning in the university environment of Indonesia. This paper is based on qualitative research methods with data collection techniques such as interview, observation and literature study. Taking advantage of the phenomenological description analysis approach, the study findings show that the University of Indonesia's library is no longer merely an institution to obtain information, but also as a space for students to process the information to be learned for themselves.
Currently, social media is widely used as a source of information by its users to meet their information needs. This study aims to determine the motives of followers to use the Twitter account @schfess as a means of fulfilling their information needs. This study uses quantitative descriptive research methods with survey data collection techniques, namely distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents who are followers of the @schfess Twitter account. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis of the percentage. The results show that there are four types of motives that encourage someone to use social media with the information motive having the highest average value of 3.52 which is included in the "Very High" category, integrity motives and social interaction of 3.09 which are included in the "High" category, entertainment motives of 3.00 which were included in the "High" category, and personal identity motives had the lowest average score of 2.95 which was included in the "High" category. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the majority of followers use the Twitter account @schfess to obtain the latest information about education, as a learning tool, and obtain guidance or advice on various problems of school life. Therefore, the researcher hopes that the @schfess Twitter account can increase supervision over the dissemination of information, especially regarding education, so that followers can continue to use the @schfess Twitter account. This research can add insight and knowledge about the use of social media, such as students who use social media like Twitter as a means of fulfilling additional information needs, especially about education.
