A sepse é uma síndrome de causas e apresentações variadas, com elevada taxa de mortalidade em todo o mundo, que evolui a partir de uma causa básica infecciosa pré-existente podendo culminar em quadro inflamatório e infeccioso generalizado. O objetivo deste estudo foi relatar o caso de óbito natural não definido de um paciente, sexo masculino, de 76 anos, lavrador e com história pregressa de diabetes mellitus II, hipertensão arterial sistêmica (HAS), taquicardia supraventricular, diarreia persistente e febre. As morbidades pré-existentes afetaram o estado geral do paciente e corroboraram, junto aos achados necroscópicos, para um desfecho clínico-patológico desfavorável. A necropsia permitiu definir a causa do óbito como choque séptico, a causa intermediária como enterocolite infecciosa e especificar a causa básica como infecção por Streptococcus viridans.
