O atual modelo vigente a Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF) não apresenta atendimento específico às mulheres climatéricas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo identificar em um grupo de mulheres o seu olhar sobre o período do climatério e da menopausa. A metodologia utilizada no estudo foi de natureza descritiva, tipo estudo de caso. Foram escolhidas 25 mulheres entre 35 e 60 anos de idade pertencentes a uma ESF de um bairro do município de Criciúma/SC e aplicado um questionário semi-estruturado, seguido da análise dos dados. A grande maioria das mulheres não sabia que a menopausa é de fato a última menstruação. Os sinais e sintomas mais comuns nesse grupo de mulheres são: esquecimento, alteração de humor, ondas de calor, dificuldade no sono, menstruações irregulares. O interesse das integrantes deste estudo sobre a menopausa é positivo, porém as mesmas nunca procuraram o posto de saúde para obter informações. Foi possível propor um programa de atenção a mulheres sendo o profissional enfermeiro o facilitador dessa alternativa.
