Recentes impactos ambientais negativos fizeram aumentar a preocupação dos stakeholders com relação ao nível de responsabilidade ambiental da empresa. As atividades empresariais têm causado diversos danos ao meio ambiente, e os stakeholders têm buscado informações que diferenciem a empresa mais comprometida com o desenvolvimento sustentável, já que as agressões ao meio ambiente podem vir a comprometer o desempenho empresarial. Nesse contexto, este estudo tem por objetivo analisar os efeitos do disclosure ambiental negativo no desempenho da empresa causadora do desastre ou sinistro. Foram analisadas 277 empresas listadas na B3 que divulgaram relatórios GRI e/ou cujas informações ambientais foram divulgadas na mídia, no período de 2013-2017. Para análise dos dados, aplicaram-se a estatística descritiva e uma regressão linear múltipla. Os resultados evidenciam que o disclosure ambiental negativo não tem impacto no desempenho operacional da empresa, porém influencia o seu valor de mercado, confirmando os preceitos da Teoria dos Stakeholders e da Teoria do Disclosure Voluntário. Dessa forma, conclui-se que os stakeholders reagem à divulgação das informações ambientais negativas.
