The wastewater treatment is being given more importance nowadays, especially those which are not from the biological processes. If the polymers used for flocculation purpose are so that they do not cause harm to the water bodies and are environment friendly then they are being given more importance. We propose here a very simple flocculent which is prepared by blending of Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Polyacrylic acid (PAA) which is safe for the water bodies and effective too. The proposed polymer has been successfully tried upon the iron ores flocculation tests at 0, 15, 20 and 50ppm. The obtained results were analysed for its iron content; they indicated enhancement of iron ore grade from 52.6% to 70.37% at 50ppm flocculent dose. The percentage recovery was found to be more for 15% pulp density at 20 % flocculent dosage.
Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) has been attracting significant attention as it not only treats waste water but also generates electricity from using waste water thereby producing electricity. The present paper presents the use of MFC in converting the waste water into electricity using a PVA membrane and graphite electrodes assembled in a lab made single MFC stack. The highest voltage obtained as 452 mV in open circuit condition which got stabilized after working for 8hrs of operation and the membrane lasted for more than 10 days of operation. The maximum current density produced was 1400mA/sqm and the ion exchange capacity was found to be 1.2meq/gm. FTIR, contact angle, TGA and SEM analysis of the membrane was also done.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
