Background:There are limited studies in the literature comparing plain radiography, US and CT in the evaluation of intestinal obstruction. We carried out this prospective study to compare the relative efficacies of these three imaging techniques in patients with intestinal obstruction.Material and Methods: Thirty-two patients presenting with clinical suspicion of intestinal obstruction were subjected to plain radiography, US and CT and the findings were compared with reference to the presence or absence of obstruction, the level of obstruction and the cause of obstruction. The final diagnosis was obtained by surgery (n=25), or by contrast studies and/or clinical followup in those who were treated conservatively (n=7).Results: Out of 32 patients, 30 had mechanical intestinal obstruction (22 had small bowel obstruction and 8 had large bowel obstruction). Of the remaining 2 patients, 1 had adynamic ileus and the other had a mesenteric cyst. CT had high sensitivity (%YO), specificity (100%) and accuracy (94%) in diagnosing the presence of obstruction. The comparable sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were, respectively, 83%, 100% and 84% for US and 77%, 50% and 75% for plain radiography. The level of obstruction was correctly predicted in 93% on CT, in 70% on US and in 60% on plain films. CT was superior (87%) to both US (23%) and plain radiography (7%) in determining the aetiology of obstruction. Conclusion:CT is a highly accurate method in the evaluation of intestinal obstruction especially for determining the level and cause of obstruction and should be the technique of choice when clinical or plain radiographic findings

We present a child aged 2 years 3 months who suffered heat stroke after being accidentally locked in a car during summer. She was unconscious with hyperthermia on admission and later showed biochemical evidence of liver, cardiac and muscle injury and associated electrolyte imbalance. Her level of consciousness gradually improved, but she showed evidence of cortical blindness, which had improved on follow-up. MR imaging on the 5th day revealed bilateral hippocampal hyperintensities along with hyperintensities in the cerebellum and in the cerebral cortex. Previous case reports of imaging in heat stroke revealed involvement of the cerebellum, thalami, basal ganglia and scattered cerebral involvement. We report this unique finding of hippocampal hyperintensities due to heat stroke.

A one-and-a-half year old boy who presented with a cough, irritability, and refusal of food was found to have an impacted foreign body in his upper esophagus. We present the radiologic findings of the foreign body (a button battery) impacted in the upper esophagus and its complications; namely, mediastinitis and spondylodiscitis after endoscopic removal. Further, plain radiograph and MR imaging findings are discussed along with literature review.

Bilateral medial cerebellar infarction occurring simultaneously is rare. We describe a middle aged male with bilateral cerebellar infarction complicated by subsequent left superior cerebellar artery infarction. Lupus anticoagulant was positive. Though the prognosis is usually considered good, our patient made poor recovery.

Study Design: Prospective Comparative Study Objective:This study aims to compare the functional outcomes of Robotic-assisted rehabilitation by Lokomat system Vs. Conventional rehabilitation in patients with Dorsolumbar complete spinal cord injury. Methods: 15 patients with Dorsolumbar spinal cord injury with ASIA A neurology were allocated to robotic rehabilitation and 15 patients to conventional rehabilitation after an operative procedure. Pre-rehabilitation parameters were noted in terms of ASIA Neurology, Motor, and sensory function scores, WISCI II score (Walking Index in Spinal Cord Injury score), LEMS (Lower Extremity Motor Score), SCIM III score (Spinal Cord Independence Measure III score), AO Spine PROST (AO Patient Reported Outcome Spine Trauma), McGill QOL score (Mc Gill Quality Of Life score), VAS score (Visual Analogue Scale) for pain and Modified Ashworth scale for spasticity in lower limbs. Results: On comparing of robotic group to conventional group there was a statistically significant improvement in group in terms of Motor score, WISCI II score, SCIM III score, AO PROST score, Mc GILL QOL score, Max velocity, and Step length. While LEMS score, ASIA neurology, VAS score, Sensory score, and Modified Ashworth scale for spasticity were not statically significant while comparing between two groups. Conclusion: Robot-assisted rehabilitation is superior than conventional rehabilitation in Spinal Cord Injury patients. Variations in results found in the literature for robotic assisted training are probably a result of factors such as differences in type and severity of lesion, time of onset to entry in rehab the devices used, application of the interventions and control interventions.
