Classroom management is one of the most important aspects of teaching, in this case was English, to create an effective and enjoyable learning environment. However, this is one of the challenges faced by pre-service teachers who have no experience previously. This study was conducted to find out what challenges are faced by pre-service English teachers related to classroom management. This research was conducted on four English Education students who were selected based on several criteria. Qualitative research design and interviews were used to collect data from the participants. The data that had been obtained from the interviews were transcribed, coded according to the results of their answers and translated into English. Based on the results of the study, there are three problems that are often faced by student-teachers related to students' bad attitudes and their learning motivation, including disrespecting the teacher, sleep during the class and lack of participation.
Writing is one of the four essential language skills for language learning. Writing is considered important because it's one of the communication medium and it makes student critical. However, writing is a significant difficulty for both native and non-native learners. Due to advancements in technology, LMS enables educators and students to communicate and engage in new ways. Google Classroom, being one of the most widely used LMS platforms, may assist students in developing their ability to write a descriptive text. This research aimed to investigate students’ perception of using Google Classroom in learning writing descriptive text. The subject examined students in the tenth grade at a Senior High School in Indonesia. This research used a qualitative approach with a narrative inquiry. The researcher utilized semi-structured interviews to gather the data and analyzed them using the thematic analysis of Braun & Clarke. The indicator of the research question is based on UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance of Technology) by Vankavesh (2003). The study discovered that students preferred using Google Classroom to learn descriptive text. Google Classroom helps them to know and understand descriptive writing materials easily. However, Effort Expectancy may be altered with sufficient internet use and Google Classroom upgrades.
Challenge is a meaning of the problem that needs to be solved. This qualitative research aims to find out the challenges teachers face in teaching speaking online during the COVID-19 pandemic and how teachers deal with these challenges. Data was collected by means of semi-structured interviews. Three male and female English teachers from a public vocational high school in Karawang, Indonesia participated in this study. The analysis is carried out through thematic analysis to interpret the data that has been collected. The challenges faced by teachers while teaching speaking online during the covid-19 pandemic, findings reveal that teachers feel challenged by having to adapt to the use of media which will later be used as a tool. Regarding these challenges, the teacher admits that students are less active in speaking in online classes. To overcome this problem, the teacher will give assignments for vocabulary pronunciation so that students have more vocabulary so that students are more confident in speaking. This research is expected to increase awareness of the importance of the teacher's role in addressing the challenges that occur in teaching speaking online in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning English.
ABSTRAKKurikulum 2013 menuntut guru untuk menciptakan situasi pembelajaran yang kreatif dan inovatif dan dituntut untuk mampu menyediakan Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) yang sesuai dengan tuntutan kebutuhan dunia industri. Tujuan dari pelaksanaan program pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan “English for Accounting” bagi guru-guru bahasa Inggris SMK di Kabupaten Karawang. Pelaksanaan PKM ini dilaksanakan selama 3 bulan yaitu pada bulan September, Oktober, dan November 2021. Peserta kegiatan pelatihan ini melibatkan guru – guru SMK sebanyak 60 orang. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode pelatihan dan workshop dengan melibatkan 3 tahapan pelaksanaan, yaitu (1) perencanaan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan dan menyusun materi pelatihan, (2) pelaksanaan kegiatan dan (3) evaluasi pelaksanaan yang dilakukan dengan analisis angket Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Ruang Auditorium SMK Bhinneka Karawang. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukan hasil yang memuaskan pada 4 aspek, yaitu kesesuaian materi dengan kebutuhan, kejelasan informasi yang disampaikan dan interaksi dengan narasumber, serta kepuasan tentang pelaksanaan kegiatan. Oleh karena itu, program kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat mampu meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam bahan ajar bahasa Inggris untuk bidang Akuntansi Keuangan dan Lembaga serta penerapan media Teknologi Infomasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) di dalam kelas. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukan bahwa program kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat mampu meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam memb bahan ajar yang sesuai dengan jurusan bidang keahlian di sekolah, selain itu kegiatan pelatihan ini dan pengetahuan baru di bidang Teknologi Infomasi dan Komunikasi (TIK). Kata kunci: english for accounting; sekolah menengah kejuruan; guru bahasa inggris ABSTRACTThe national 2013 curriculum requires teachers to create innovative learning situations and is required to be able to provide Human Resources (HR) who meet the demands of the industrial world. The purpose of this community service program is to provide "English for Accounting" training for English teachers at Vocational High School in Karawang Regency. The implementation of this program was carried out for 3 months, from September to November 2021. The participants of this training activity were 60 teachers. This community service activity was carried out using training and workshop methods which involved 3 stages, i,e, planning, implementation and evaluation. This activity was held in the Auditorium of the Bhinneka Vocational School in Karawang. The results of the implementation of this activity indicated the participants’ satisfaction in 4 areas, i.e. the material suitability, clarity of information and interaction with the speakers as well as their overall satisfaction of the activities. Thus, it can be concluded that the activity facilitated the participants to improve their competence regarding English for Accounting teaching materials and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) classroom integration. The narrative inquiry research was conducted to explore islamic boarding school students’ attitudes in using English conversation habits and to find out the opportunities and challenges that they faced when learning English using it during boarding school. The data were collected from four islamic boarding school students’ of a state boarding school in Karawang, Indonesia through semistructured interviews and questionnaires. Thematic analysis was used in analyzing the data. The results revealed that islamic boarding school felt very interested, happy, and are motivated to use English conversation habits since English conversation habits is considered quite effective and flexible in terms of time and place, especially in terms of increasing students creativity and productivity, helping students practice English, and providing learning experiences using a new learning system. However, islamic boarding school students’ also felt challenged and worried to face several obstacles that’s occurred such as lack of student participation, pronunciation is difficult, and some students even feel insecure. Therefore, Islamic boarding school students are still interested in carrying out classroom learning with English conversation habits in the future. In conclusion, the majority of Islamic boarding school students' had a positive attitude towards the use of English conversation habits since it was considered one of the best learning program that students can use while teaching English during boarding school.
