Nuo 2020 m. kovo 11 d. pasaulyje paskelbta COVID-19 pandemija. Jos metu veido kaukių dėvėjimas daugelyje pasaulio šalių tapo privalomas. Tokį sprendimą priėmė ir Lietuvos Respublikos Vyriausybė, siekdama suvaldyti pandemiją. Dalis visuomenės šį sprendimą vertino neigiamai dėl kaukių sukeliamų nepatogumų ir intervencijos į privatų gyvenimą, nepaisant kontroversiškų įrodymų dėl kaukių dėvėjimo veiksmingumo. Tyrimo tikslas – apžvelgti ir įvertinti veidą dengiančių kaukių veiksmingumą COVID-19 pandemijos valdymui ir išsiaiškinti Lietuvos gyventojų požiūrį į kaukių naudojimą. Tyrimo metodai. Atliktas aprašomasis paplitimo tyrimas. Tyrimo priemonė − elektroninė anoniminė Lietuvos gyventojų apklausa, naudojantis socialiniais tinklais. Tyrimas atliktas 2020 m. lapkričio mėn. Tyrime dalyvavo 3992 respondentai. Duomenų analizei taikyti aprašomosios statistikos metodai. Rezultatai ir išvados. COVID-19 pandemijos metu atlikti moksliniai tyrimai atskleidė masinio kaukių dėvėjimo veiksmingumą ne tik medicinos įstaigose, bet ir bendroje populiacijoje. Veiksmingumui užtikrinti būtinos sąlygos: plataus masto kaukių dėvėjimas visuomenėje, teisingas jų naudojimas bei kitų apsauginių priemonių paisymas. Nors Lietuvoje kaukių dėvėjimo rekomendacijos pagrįstos užsienio valstybių patirtimi bei tarptautinėmis mokslo žiniomis, trečdalis apklaustųjų vis dar mano, jog kaukės nėra veiksminga priemonė pandemijai valdyti. Pastebėta, jog aukštojo universitetinio išsilavinimo žmonės labiau linkę teigiamai vertinti kaukių veiksmingumą pandemijai valdyti, nei tie, kurie tokio išsilavinimo neturi. Didelę įtaką nuomonei, jog kaukių dėvėjimas yra prasta priemonė epidemiologinei situacijai valdyti, darė kaukių sukeliami nepatogumai arba sveikatos būklės pakitimai. Šie reiškiniai labiau būdingi senyvo amžiaus, lėtinėmis ligomis sergantiems žmonėms, todėl tiek Lietuvoje, tiek užsienyje atliktų tyrimų metu rastas statistiškai reikšmingas mažesnio kaukių priimtinumo ryšys su vyresniu amžiumi.
