Even during sealed curing, the relative humidity (RH) within a hardening cement paste may decrease. This self-created change in the RH (autogenous RH-change) may be so forcible that the cement paste cracks if the attached deformation is restrained. This Paper focuses on the influence of silica fume (SF) addition on autogenous RHchange in hardening cement paste. Continuous measurement of autogenous RH-change for more than 1½ years has shown it to be markedly increased by SF addition.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
