Wprowadzenie i cel pracy. Język stanowi cenne źródło informacji na temat zdrowia ogólnego pacjenta i może być indykatorem obecności lub rozwoju zaburzeń miejscowych i ogólnych. Duża częstotliwość występowania oraz duża różnorodność obrazów klinicznych stanów patologicznych języka wynikają z jego specyficznej budowy anatomicznej i histologicznej. Różnorodność możliwych czynników etiologicznych zmian na języku oraz niespecyficzność objawów zgłaszanych przez pacjenta mogą sprawiać trudności z postawieniem prawidłowego rozpoznania. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie zmian występujących na języku oraz pogłębienie wiedzy lekarzy różnych specjalności na temat specyficznych i niespecyficznych stanów języka, które mogą się rozwinąć pod wpływem czynników miejscowych lub ogólnych. Opis stanu wiedzy. Wśród wszystkich zmian występujących na języku największą grupę stanowią zaburzenia atroficzne języka, najczęściej wynikające z obecności problemu ogólnoustrojowego. Kolejną grupę stanowią zmiany i stany języka opisane jako konkretne jednostki, które mogą być zaburzeniami wrodzonymi lub rozwojowymi, mogą mieć pochodzenie infekcyjne lub nowotworowe, jak i nie mieć jednoznacznie określonej etiologii. Podsumowanie. Umiejętność rozpoznawania stanów łagodnych oraz zmian patologicznych zlokalizowanych na języku pozwoli na postawienie prawidłowego rozpoznania, zastosowanie korzystnego leczenia -bez elementów jatrogenii -i wpłynie korzystnie na poprawę jakości życia pacjentów.
