The aim of the research presented in the article was to check the differences in the hygro-thermal and mechanical properties of hemp-lime composites with different shives fractions, depending on the direction of mixture compaction. The research part of the paper presents the preparation method and investigation on the composites. Thermal conductivity, capillary uptake, as well as flexural and compressive strengths were examined. Additionally, an analysis of the temperature distribution in the external wall insulated with the tested composites was performed. The results confirm that the direction of compaction influences the individual properties of the composites in a similar way, depending on the size of the shives. The differences are more pronounced in the case of the composite containing longer fractions of shives. Both thermal conductivity of the material and the capillary uptake ability are lower in the parallel direction of the compaction process. Composites exhibit greater stiffness, but they fail faster with increasing loads when loaded in the direction perpendicular to compaction.
Laser scanning allows the acquiring of spatial data about existing objects. It is used as a modern inventory technique, most often in the creation of archival or conservation documentation. It gives the opportunity to obtain a very large amount of spatial data of the facility thus helping to improve operations in the field of conservation but also reduces the margin of error in the inventory and then design documentation. It is useful due to the growing BIM technology, through which three-dimensional models of existing objects of various scales are obtained. This article presents research comparing the traditional measurement method and the modern one with the use of a laser scanner. The research is a compilation of the duration of architectural inventory techniques as well as the accuracy of the measurements made and of the following architectural drawings. The result of the research is a relative percentage ratio showing the acceleration of inventory works with a simple construction object using modern assistive techniques compared to the traditional method.
The presented study involved designing a computer model of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) at laboratory scale. The data pertaining to the technical aspects of the bioreactor and quality indicators of wastewater constituted the input for the employed simulation tool, i.e. GPS-X software package. The results of a simulation involving a 12-hour operation cycle are presented in this work; each cycle included 6 phases: filling, mixing, aeration, settling, decantation and idling (wasting of excess sludge). The simulations were carried out using two different modes of aeration. Concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO) was maintained at constant level of 2 mgO2/L using the PID controller in the first case. On the other hand, variation of DO concentration was employed in the aeration stage of the second variant, which was achieved using appropriately elaborated set point of oxygen concentration, considering the specific intervals in oxygen supply. The changes observed in DO concentration varied from 0.5 to 2.5 mgO2/L. This research proved that the second variant, involving variation of DO concentration, was characterised by reduced levels of pollution indicators in treated sewage, as well as lower consumption of electricity, both of which contributed towards improving the effluent quality and resulted in significant degree of dephosphatation.
Small towns in the Lublin Province are abundant with buildings possessed of outstanding historical and architectural values, representing the culture of past generations. Piaski, about 30 km east of Lublin, also boasts some of the remarkable characteristic of small towns. Not only does it feature post-Jewish tenements, but also a palace and complexes of religious buildings situated on its outskirts. This article focuses on the Kościelec - an unused, dilapidated former Protestant church. Now, works are being carried out that have inspired the Piaski town authorities to try to find a best-use scenario for the former church, in order to preserve its architectural values for future generations. The authors of this article aim to prove the necessity of research and analysis in finding the best new functions for properties whose function has already been imposed. The example of successfully completed revitalisation works at the palace and park complex in Gardzienice, located not far from the baroque Protestant church in Piaski, illustrates the advantages of some of the adaptation processes that can be employed in such buildings.
Abstract. Basing on the secondary warehouses in the donjon of Kłodzko Fortress, the authors of this paper discuss the subject of interference in the historical structure, as well as the opportunities that comes with such inclusion. They analyse the possibilities to use the space incorporated into the existing fabric of a historical object on the basis of a building survey. This article scrutinises the problem of interference in a very particular military object and all related issues that might arise in this area. Postindustrial warehouses are located in the donjon, which is the last ring of defence. These secondary buildings touch two interesting issues: the introduction of the new function to the whole complex and, on the other hand, the interference in the original form of the ramparts situated over casemated halls of the courtyard. To address this problem, the authors analyse the existing structure for its functionality, usability and design, presenting its advantages, disadvantages and perspectives in the context of the whole complex of Kłodzko Fortress. The fortress is an interesting tourist spot because of its location in the scale of the city and the Kłodzko Valley region. It might be considered as a nodal point for the touristic attractions of the area.
There are many Eastern Orthodox church buildings throughout the Lublin Province. Over the years, these architectural objects have undergone multiple transformations, both in terms of changing religious denominations and rituals and also adaptation to new functions, such as warehousing. This article classifies and presents the transformations carried out in selected Eastern Orthodox churches in the Lublin province. By using comparative analysis of the buildings' primary condition and their current state, it was possible to identify the risks and opportunities arising from the process of adapting these buildings and their rich historical background. Additionally, the article includes a subjective assessment of the adaptation works and their influence on the physical form of the Eastern Orthodox churches examined. To present the adaptation methods currently applied to religious buildings located in Poland, this article focuses on examples of already-transformed properties that used to have a religious function in the past, but that have now been turned into commercial properties.
This paper discusses the use of modern technology of inventory measurements based on the inventory of the historical palace and park complex in Snopków. The inventory of the site was made using laser scanning measurements. The article draws attention to the specificity of the inventory of historical sites, their complexity and diversity of architectural details that are important for proper revitalisation and further preservation works.
