This study presents a systematic method for concurrently developing the product variety. The proposed method integrates three approaches successively. First, the quality function deployment approach identifies the external driven factors of design variation. Second, the quantified design structure matrix technique is proposed to identify the internal interactions and build the hierarchy of components interactions within a product. Third, the morphology analysis approach is applied to visualize the concepts of the developing product through creating design solutions for every component and module. This approach represents the design priority and related design constrains using a structural graph for helping designers to create design solutions in a product design for variety. A case study is employed to illustrate this method and the result validates the feasibility and effectiveness. This article proposes a systematic innovation approach by integrating the function analysis and trimming method into the conceptual design activities of new product development (NPD). Concept design is considered to be one of the pivotal phases in NPD process, which has a significant impact on downstream NPD activities such as ideas selection and detail design. Despite the recognized importance of concept design, there is a lack of a systematic and effective problem-solving process that covers all concept design activities. To address this gap, the authors develop a systematic approach to product concept design based on the problem-oriented concept. Also, the authors provide a case example to demonstrate the effectiveness of using this method in NPD context and further illustrate some implications through the managerial perspective.

Technology and innovation are the power of human civilization. In face of such a changeable era, the rapid development and circulation of information technology has hastened the diversification of society. To cope with the approach of information society, teaching methods should also be changed, as traditional injection education could no longer adapt to the changing society. Different from the face-to-face lecturing in traditional classrooms, learners at different places could still precede "face-to-face" like instruction through synchronous web-based instruction. It is expected to promote students' creativity. Taking teachers and students of public and private universities in Kaohsiung City as the sampling subjects, 600 copies of questionnaires are distributed. Total 428 valid copies are collected, with the retrieval rate 71%. The research results are concluded as following. 1. Synchronous web-based instruction would affect thinking styles. 2. Synchronous web-based instruction would influence creativity. 3. Thinking styles reveal notably positive effects on creativity. The research results and suggestions are expected to have teachers change the teaching methods in order to promote students' creativity.
