Yabancı dil öğretiminde öğretmen ve öğrencilerin en çok tercih ettiği öğretim materyali ders kitaplarıdır. Ders kitaplarında öğrenme-öğretme sürecini destekleyen pek çok öge mevcuttur. Bunlardan biri de temel dil becerilerini geliştirmede katkı sağlayan yabancı dil ders kitaplarının görsel tasarımıdır. Yabancı dil öğretiminde, görsel ögelere başvurulması oldukça yaygın bir yaklaşımdır. Teknolojinin gelişmesi ve ülkemizde artık akıllı tahta, tablet gibi teknolojik unsurların eğitimde yer almasıyla görsellik daha da önem kazanmıştır. Ülkemizde geliştirilen ders kitaplarının yabancı dil öğretiminde görsel ögeler kullanılarak olumlu ölçüde etkilenip etkilemediği ve bu durumun görsel tasarım ilkeleriyle bağlantılı olup olmadığı öğretmen görüşlerinden yararlanılarak saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler paydaşlarla paylaşılarak ülkemiz öğrencilerinin nitelikli yabancı dil öğrenmelerine olanak sağlayabilecektir. Bu çalışmada, 2020-2021 eğitim-öğretim döneminde Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından kullanılması zorunlu olan Almanca ders kitapları görsel tasarım ilkelerine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Ortaöğretim yabancı dil olarak Almanca derslerinde okutulması zorunluluğu göz önünde bulundurularak çalışma; Wie bitte? A1.1 ders kitabı, Deutsch für Gymnasien A1.1 ders kitabı ve Deutsch macht Spaβ A1.2 ders kitabı görsellik açısından incelenmesi olarak sınırlandırılmıştır. Ders kitaplarının görsel tasarım açısından değerlendirilmesine yönelik anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Türkiye’de Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’na bağlı devlet okullarında çalışan Almanca öğretmenlerine uygulanan bu araştırmaya 26’sı kadın ve 74’ü erkek olmak üzere 100 Almanca öğretmeni katılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın sonucunda öğretmenlerin diğer kitaplara oranla Deutsch für Gymnasien A1.1 kitabının görsel açıdan daha iyi buldukları tespit edilmiştir. Wie Bitte! A1.1 ders kitabının görsel açıdan daha az etkileyici olduğu saptanmıştır. Deutsch macht Spaβ A1.2 kitabını ise bazı görsel ögeler bakımından etkili olduğu düşünülmektedir.
