Epidemiological surveys demonstrate that rapid increase in allergic diseases is a real phenomenon. In developed countries they are about the commonest chronic diseases, reaching between 15% and 30% of the population. Adverse reaction to food can be divided into toxic reaction and non-toxic reactions. The non-toxic reactions are divided into non-immune mediated and immune mediated, these are considered food allergic reactions. We showed our experience in a 4 y survey, individualized by food allergens during the ®rst two years of life. In Spain egg white protein is the most common allergen followed by cow's milk and peanuts. These three food items represent half of the sensitizations in children under 2 y of age. After 4 y sensitivities to vegetable allergens such as nuts, fruits and legumes are most frequent. The diagnosis of food allergy is still problematic, even in the case of atopy or IgE mediated hypersensitivity. There is a lack of standardized diagnostic procedures; the only test accepted as`gold standard' for con®rmation of food allergy and in general for food intolerance, is a properly performed double blind placebo-controlled oral food challenge. Negative results should be always followed by an open food challenge. This test should only be conducted in patients with a good medical condition and in a clinic or hospital setting, and only if trained personal and equipment for treating systemic anaphylaxis are present. Contraindications to a challenge test are limited to those situations that can be hazardous for the patient in relationship to the studied food. The treatment of food allergy and intolerance is avoiding the implicated food as long as necessary, until tolerance appears. Prevention of food allergy is the ®rst goal of every pediatric allergologist. Controlled trials of food allergy prevention have been performed only in high allergic risk children.
in 52% was 5 days. Seventy-three patients received empiric levofloxacin, 67 ceftriaxone, 35 amoxicillin/clavulanic and 11.8% received no antibiotic. Conclusion and relevance PCR was not performed in all patients suspected of flu virus infection. The population >65 years of age was the most affected by the virus, with HTA and smoking being the main risk factors. Oseltamivir was used at the correct dose, but treatment duration greater than or less than 5 days was not warranted. Adjustment for CKD was not always taken into account. Overuse of antibiotics was confirmed in patients where an antiviral might have been sufficient to treat the influenza.
26 studies. Twenty-three (77%) studies reported poor PS status for 25% of the SCLC population, with six reporting poor PS in 50% of the SCLC population. The proportion of SCLC patients with poor PS ranged from 14% to 88%. Findings were heterogeneous across studies due to the variability in thresholds used to define the categories, study setting and inclusion of both LS-and ES-SCLC patients for reporting. For studies reporting PS by stage (n¼4), the proportion of patients with poor PS ranged from 13% to 53% in ES-SCLC and 11% to 12% in LS-SCLC. Conclusion: A significant percentage of patients with SCLC outside clinical trials present with a poor PS. LS-SCLC patients have a better PS. Prevalence of poor PS was higher for ES-SCLC and the reported figures are higher compared to non-small cell lung cancer.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
