Entre la Gran Recesión y la Gran Pandemia se han producido cambios socioeconómicos que han incrementado el número de familias en situación de vulnerabilidad y riesgo de pobreza y exclusión social. El artículo tiene como objetivo presentar una revisión bibliográfica para identificar los factores asociados a la vulnerabilidad y analizar las características de los instrumentos de evaluación del fenómeno en el contexto iberoamericano en los últimos quince años. La revisión de los artículos indexados más relevantes de este ámbito revela que la vulnerabilidad social es un fenómeno complejo y multidimensional, debido a condicionantes externos e internos de las familias. El análisis nos muestra una escasez de instrumentos estandarizados para la realización de un diagnóstico o valoración social, además de una falta de unanimidad en las formas de evaluación o medida del constructo. La mayoría de los instrumentos analizados toman como ámbitos de análisis la salud, la vivienda, la educación, la economía, el ámbito laboral y relacional. A partir de este análisis, constatamos la necesidad de avanzar hacia el desarrollo de herramientas estandardizadas, a la vez que dinámicas, que permitan diagnosticar y evaluar la vulnerabilidad social familiar en el marco de las intervenciones sociales y los programas socioeducativos. De esa forma se puede lograr un mayor rigor y equidad en los procesos de acompañamiento social y acción socioeducativa, así como una sistematización de la evaluación de impacto de los programas en las familias y comunidades.
Introducción: El impacto de políticas o programas sobre la pobreza y la vulnerabilidad social se ha estudiado mayoritariamente en nuestro contexto desde la economía o la sociología a partir de estudios comparativos y diseños experimentales de carácter cuantitativo. En cambio, nuestro interés radica en el uso de metodologías cualitativas que, desde las áreas de la pedagogía social, la educación social o el trabajo social, pueden aportar evidencias del impacto de estos fenómenos en el bienestar de las personas. Objetivos: 1) mostrar la funcionalidad y valor que aporta la metodología cualitativa en diseños mixtos en la investigación educativa, y 2) ejemplificar la aplicabilidad de la investigación cualitativa, tanto en fases exploratoria como confirmatoria, de los diseños de investigación en educación y evaluación de la acción socioeducativa. Métodos: presentamos tres investigaciones enmarcadas en el programa CaixaProinfacia, proyecto social que atiende la infancia en situación de pobreza en España. Los tres estudios tienen en común haber utilizado técnicas cualitativas en sus primeras fases, entre ellas, mayoritariamente, entrevistas semiestructuradas y grupos de discusión. La primera investigación se focaliza en identificar los factores de éxito educativo en contextos de pobreza relativa; el segundo estudio busca observar las necesidades emergentes en el contexto de la COVID-19 en la infancia y sus familias en situación de pobreza y, finalmente, el tercer estudio tiene como propósito construir una escala para evaluar la vulnerabilidad social familiar. Aplicación: Los resultados de estas tres investigaciones cualitativas han permitido avanzar y profundizar en el conocimiento de los fenómenos estudiados desde la perspectiva de los propios sujetos, obteniendo un consenso o armis teórico que se ha podido validar estadísticamente en una siguiente fase de las investigaciones. Conclusiones: Constatamos que la integración de la investigación cualitativa en diseños mixtos de investigación nos permite comprender holísticamente la complejidad de los fenómenos educativos y sociales.
