The 44 Ar(d,p) 45 Ar neutron transfer reaction was performed at 10 A.MeV. Measured excitation energies, deduced angular momenta and spectroscopic factors of the states populated in 45 Ar are reported. A satisfactory description of these properties is achieved in the shell model framework using a new sdpf interaction. The model analysis is extended to more exotic even-Z nuclei down to 41 14 Si27 to study how collectivity impacts the low lying structure of N = 27 neutron-rich nuclei.
The article compares two approaches to the description of ultrasound vocal tract images for application in a "silent speech interface," one based on tongue contour modeling, and a second, global coding approach in which images are projected onto a feature space of Eigentongues. A curvaturebased lip profile feature extraction method is also presented. Extracted visual features are input to a neural network which learns the relation between the vocal tract configuration and line spectrum frequencies (LSF) contained in a one-hour speech corpus. An examination of the quality of LSF's derived from the two approaches demonstrates that the eigentongues approach has a more efficient implementation and provides superior results based on a normalized mean squared error criterion.Index Terms-image processing, speech synthesis, neural network applications, communication systems, silent speech interface
Here, we describe a new imaging setup able to assess in vivo photosynthetic activity. The system specifically measures time-resolved chlorophyll fluorescence in response to light. It is composed of a fast digital camera equipped with a wide-angle lens for the analysis of samples up to 10 x 10 cm, i.e. entire plants or petri dishes. In the choice of CCD, we have opted for a 12-bits high frame rate [150 fps (frames per second)] at the expense of definition (640 x 480 pixels). Although the choice of digital camera is always a compromise between these two related features, we have designed a flexible system allowing the fast sampling of images (down to 100 micros) with a maximum spatial resolution. This image readout system, synchronized with actinic light and saturating pulses, allows a precise determination of F(0) and F(M), which is required to monitor PSII activity. This new imaging system, together with image processing techniques, is useful to investigate the heterogeneity of photosynthetic activity within leaves or to screen large numbers of unicellular algal mutant colonies to identify those with subtle changes in photosynthetic electron flow.
N nuclei from the "0("0, ' N)"F reaction at 91 MeV have been observed. The mass excess of ' N is measured as 15.81 + 0.09 MeV, a value located in between the conAicting predictions of the Garvey-Kelson formula and the modified shell-model mass equation.NUCLEAH HEACTIONS~0{ 0 N) F. 0=10' E{ 0) =91 MeV. enriched target; measured Q, deduced mass excess of~N.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
