La sociologie des attentes traite l’objet technique du point de vue des promesses et défend la thèse que les choix d’aujourd’hui non seulement déterminent le futur mais ce faisant oblitèrent d’autres options peut-être plus souhaitables ou en tout cas possibles. Ce texte critique la notion de « futurs possibles » sur le plan ontologique et cosmologique. Forme hybride entre la fiction et l’argumentation académique sur le mode de la rhapsodie, il imagine la possibilité d’une conception différente du temps sur le modèle de la rétro-causalité, en prenant appui sur l’objet technique. Il tente de montrer que la sociologie des attentes ne présente pas de réelles alternatives dans la mesure où elle fait de la projection du présent sur le futur le moteur de notre avenir, obscurcissant par là tout effort créatif voire même la possibilité de faire sens. De la sorte, la sociologie des attendes épouse et renforce le système de domination qu’elle prétend critiquer.
