From the above results, it is suggested that sesamin may improve hypertension by its ability to induce NO and inhibit ET-1 production from endothelial cells. The increase of NO by sesamin is through the induction of eNOS gene expression. The decrease of ET-1 by sesamin is through the inhibition of ECE gene expression, but is not through the inhibition of prepro ET-1 gene expression.
AB STRACT: The pur pose of this study was to exam ine the effec tive ness of health pro mo tion edu ca tion pro grams for a group of elderly res i dents in a com mu nity. A one group pre-and post-test design was used in this study. Nurses, dieti tians, and phys i cal edu ca tion teach ers worked col labor atively to pro vide a series of com pre hen sive, inte grated edu ca tion pro grams. Course con tent included healthy life style and health pro mo tion, dis ease pre ven tion, nutri tion, exer cise, and med i ca tion edu ca tion. A total of 140 elderly par tic i pated in this study. Ninety-seven sub jects attended all of the edu ca tion pro grams. A struc tured ques tion naire was used for data col lec tion. Infor ma tion about demo graph ics, health sta tus, health promo tion knowl edge and behav iors was included. The health pro mo tion behav ior data were col lected twice. The ini tial data set was col lected prior to the first course and the sec ond after the fifth course. Health pro mo tion knowl edge was assessed pre-and post-test in the sec ond, third, and fourth courses. The research find ings revealed that the edu ca tion pro grams were effec tive in improv ing elderly health pro mo tion knowl edge and behav iors. The scores for health pro mo tion knowl edge and pos i tive health behav iors were high among sub jects who were aged 65-69 years, were mar ried, lived with fam ily mem bers and had higher edu ca tion lev els. The results could be used as a ref er ence in future health promo tion edu ca tion in the com mu nity.
