This review of the literature focuses on distance learning. It devotes particular attention to the telecourse and the role two-way communication plays in distance learning effectiveness. It is concluded that a broad theoretical framework that can be applied to distance learning is both lacking and needed. Suggestions for needed research are discussed.
This is a progress report on IEEE's role as one of several professional associations involved in the Sloan Career Cornerstone Project scheduled for completion by the end of 1998. Project activities include the development of a CD-ROM series, as well a s videos and web sites on careers in math, science and engineering. IEEE is producing a CD-ROM and two videos on careers for electrical engineers, computer engineers and scientists. A Question & Answer component will be a prominent feature of the IEEE student career web site. The Sloan Cornerstone Series, including those produced by IEIZE, will be marketed to career centers, libraries, universities, and high schools. The IEEE materials will be made available gratis through IEEE Student Branches and will be distributed by the IEEE.
