Dedicated to Professor Jack D. Dunitz on the occasion of his 80th birthdayThe long-wavelength magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of some nitrogen-containing heteroconjugated aromatic compounds have been recorded and interpreted on the basis of quantum-chemical model calculations. In particular, the dependence of the MCD bands on the positions of the N-atoms inside the aromatic rings and on substituents has been investigated. Some of the compounds considered form Ru 2 complexes. The influence of complexation on the longwavelength p-p* bands of the ligands has also been recorded and discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
