An examination of the skeletons from the well-known La Tène cemetery of Münsingen-Rain shows that they represent members of a high ranking group, and that they were closely related. These new findings prompt the authors to examine the written documents that refer to nobility in the Roman and Celtic world.
Peter Jud widmet sich in seiner Dissertation einer von ihm selbst geleiteten Grabung in der keltischen Siedlung Basel-Gasfabrik, bei der u.a. zwei Töpferöfen und Reste einer Schmiede freigelegt wurden. Die Auswertung liegt nun als zweibändiges Materialheft vor. Nach dem „Pflichtteil“, d.h. der Vorlage von Befunden und Funden, öffnet der Autor den Horizont weiter und kommt z.B. bei seinen Überlegungen zur Keramikproduktion in der keltischen Siedlung zu hochinteressanten Schlussfolgerungen, indem er auch Ergebnisse der ethnologischen Forschung mit einbezieht. Ebenso spannend zu lesen sind die Ausführungen zu den in der Siedlung immer wieder zum Vorschein kommenden menschlichen Skeletten oder Skelettteilen. Das Werk ist insgesamt so gut geschrieben, dass es auch für archäologisch gebildete Laien zugänglich ist.
