This article discusses the basic components of fire sprinkler systems and the potential for cross connections that exists with these systems. Fire protection systems, which are pressurized piping systems, should be isolated from potable water systems using the proper backflow prevention assembly for the degree of determined hazard. Classification of fire sprinkler systems is described, and backflow protection required for low‐, moderate‐, and high‐hazard systems is addressed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
