We calculate the central charges a, c and k G of a large class of fourdimensional N = 2 superconformal field theories arising from compactifying the sixdimensional N = (2, 0) theory on a Riemann surface with regular and irregular punctures. We also study the renormalization group flows between the general Argyres-Douglas theories, which all agree with the a-theorem.
We interpret certain Seiberg-like dualities of two-dimensional N =(2, 2) quiver gauge theories with unitary groups as cluster mutations in cluster algebras, originally formulated by Fomin and Zelevinsky. In particular, we show how the complexified Fayet-Iliopoulos parameters of the gauge group factors transform under those dualities and observe that they are in fact related to the dual cluster variables of cluster algebras. This implies that there is an underlying cluster algebra structure in the quantum Kähler moduli space of manifolds constructed from the corresponding Kähler quotients. We study the S 2 partition function of the gauge theories, showing that it is invariant under dualities/mutations, up to an overall normalization factor whose physical origin and consequences we spell out in detail. We also present similar dualities in N =(2, 2) * quiver gauge theories, which are related to dualities of quantum integrable spin chains.
We propose and prove a new exact duality between the F-terms of supersymmetric gauge theories in five and three dimensions with adjoint matter fields. The theories are compactified on a circle and are subject to the Omega deformation. In the limit proposed by Nekrasov and Shatashvili, the supersymmetric vacua become isolated and are identified with the eigenstates of a quantum integrable system. The effective twisted superpotentials are the Yang-Yang functional of the relativistic elliptic Calogero-Moser model. We show that they match on-shell by deriving the Bethe ansatz equation from the saddle point of the five-dimensional partition function. We also show that the Chern-Simons terms match and extend our proposal to the elliptic quiver generalizations.Comment: 30 pages, 4 figures. v2: typo corrected, references adde
Abstract:We study scalar excitations of high spin operators in N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory, which are dual to solitons propagating on a long folded string in AdS 3 × S 1 . In the spin chain description of the gauge theory, these are associated to holes in the magnon distribution in the sl(2, R) sector. We compute the all-loop hole S-matrix from the asymptotic Bethe ansatz, and expand in leading orders at weak and strong coupling. The worldsheet S-matrix of solitonic excitations on the GKP string is calculated using semiclassical quantization. We find an exact agreement between the gauge theory and string theory results.arXiv:1105.4596v2 [hep-th]
We study the coil-to-globule transitions of both homopolymers and multiblock copolymers using integrated tempering sampling method, which is a newly proposed enhanced sampling method that can efficiently sample the energy space with low computational costs. For homopolymers, the coil-to-globule structure transition temperatures (Ttr) are identified by the radius of gyration of the chain. The transition temperature shows a primary scaling dependence on the chain length (N) with Ttr ∼ N(-1/2). For multiblock copolymers, the coil-to-globule transition can be identified as first order, depending on the block size and the difference in attractive interactions of blocks. The influence of mutating a small portion of strongly attractive blocks to weakly attractive blocks on the coil-to-globule transition is found to be related to the position of the mutation.
In this study, 2 m air temperature data from 24 meteorological stations in the Qilian Mountains (QLM) are examined to evaluate ERA-Interim reanalysis temperature data derived from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) for the period of 1979-2017. ERA-Interim generally captures the monthly, seasonal, and annual variation very well. High daily correlations ranging from 0.956 to 0.996 indicate that ERA-Interim captures the daily temperature observations very well. However, an average root-mean-square error (RMSE) of ±2.7°C of all stations reveals that ERA-Interim should not be directly applied at individual sites. e biases are mainly attributed to the altitude differences between ERA-Interim grid points and stations. e positive trend (0.457°C/decade) is significant over the Qilian Mountains based on the 1979-2017 observations. ERA-Interim captures the warming trend very well with an increase rate of 0.384°C/decade. e observations and ERA-Interim both show the largest positive trends in summer with the values of 0.552°C/decade and 0.481°C/decade, respectively. We conclude that in general ERA-Interim captures the trend very well for observed 2 m air temperatures and ERA-Interim is generally reliable for climate change research over the Qilian Mountains.
Contamination by heavy metals is a significant issue worldwide. In recent decades, soil heavy metals pollutants in China had adverse impacts on soil quality and threatened food security and human health. Anthropogenic inputs mainly generate heavy metal contamination in China. In this review, the approaches were used in these investigations, focusing on geochemical strategies and metal isotope methods, particularly useful for determining the pathway of mining and smelting derived pollution in the soil. Our findings indicate that heavy metal distribution substantially impacts topsoils around mining and smelting sites, which release massive amounts of heavy metals into the environment. Furthermore, heavy metal contamination and related hazards posed by Pb, Cd, As, and Hg are more severe to plants, soil organisms, and humans. It’s worth observing that kids are particularly vulnerable to Pb toxicity. And this review also provides novel approaches to control and reduce the impacts of heavy metal pollution. Hydrometallurgy offers a potential method for extracting metals and removing potentially harmful heavy metals from waste to reduce pollution. However, environmentally friendly remediation of contaminated sites is a significant challenge. This paper also evaluates current technological advancements in the remediation of polluted soil, such as stabilization/solidification, natural attenuation, electrokinetic remediation, soil washing, and phytoremediation. The ability of biological approaches, especially phytoremediation, is cost-effective and favorable to the environment.
Reanalysis temperature products are important datasets for temperature estimates over high-elevation areas with few meteorological stations. In this study, surface 2 m air temperature data from 17 meteorological stations from 1979 to 2017 in the Qilian Mountains (QLM) are used for comparison with the newest reanalysis product: ERA5-Land derived from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). In general, the ERA5-Land temperature product can reproduce the observation variation at different time scales very well. A high monthly correlation coefficient that ranges from 0.978 to 0.998 suggests that ERA5-Land reanalysis temperature could capture the observations very well. However, attention should be paid before using ERA5-Land at individual sites because of the average root-mean-square-error (RMSE) of 2.2°C of all stations. The biases between ERA5-Land temperature and observations are mainly caused by the elevation differences between ERA5-Land grid points and meteorological sites. The annual mean temperature shows a significant warming trend (0.488°C/decade) from 1979 to 2017 based on the observations. ERA5-Land reanalysis temperature captures the increasing trend very well (0.379°C/decade). The biggest positive warming trends of observations and ERA5-Land are both found in summer with values of 0.574°C/decade and 0.496°C/decade, respectively. We suggest that ERA5-Land generally reproduces the temperature trend very well for observations and is reliable for scientific research over the QLM.
