Child abuse and neglect is a public health problem that is seen in all societies and can have permanent negative effects on the individual. Child abuse and neglect, which falls under the general definition of child maltreatment according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is all kinds of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, indifference and negligence, commercial and other exploitation of children under the age of 18 that negatively affect their health, survival, development or the sense of trust in relationships. According to WHO's 2020 data, approximately three of every four children aged between 2 and 4 are regularly exposed to corporal punishment and/or psychological violence by their parents and caregivers.
