The border walls made up of past and present technological possibilities are part of the instincts of the countries to protect their borders. This study investigates border walls in terms of materials and construction techniques used. The method of the study is to examine the reasons why and how the countries make border walls in terms of architecture with a literature review. In the past, the border walls were built for military purposes against threats of occupation and attack. They are usually built with locally available building materials and are in harmony with topography. In the present, border walls are used to separate two opposing ideological, political, military, economic and cultural blocks. They are usually built with prefabricated materials especially modular concrete blocks. As a result, although the world is rapidly globalizing with modernism, it is seen that the border walls are increasing rapidly. Although construction techniques and usage purposes have changed with developing technology, border walls continue to be at the basis of international relations.
