Giriş ve Amaç:Demir eksikliği anemisi gelişmekte olan ülkelerde önemli bir sorun teşkil etmektedir. Demir eksikliği anemisi tespit edilen çocukların ve ailelerinin demografik özelliklerini, serum çinko düzeyi ile karşılaştırmayı amaçladık. Yöntem ve Gereçler: Haydarpaşa Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Polikliniği'nde 01.11.2013-01.12.2013 tarihleri arasında 6 ay-12 yaş arasındaki demir eksikliği anemisi olan çocukların boy ve ağırlık persentillerine bakılarak, beslenme alışkanlığı ve ailenin gelir düzeyi sorgulanarak, serum çinko örneği için kan alındı. Hastalardan alınan kan örneklerinden çinko düzeyi saptanarak çinko düzeylerindeki farklılıkların demir eksikliği anemisi ile ilişkisi değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Demir eksikliği anemisi olan hastalardan bakılan serum çinko düzeyi ile cinsiyet, beslenme, aile gelir düzeyi, aile eğitim durumu arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmadı (p>0.05). Çinko düzeyi ile yaş ve ağırlık arasında anlamlı pozitif korelasyon mevcuttu (p<0.05). Çinko düzeyi ile boy ve Fe/Febk yüzde değeri arasında anlamlı korelasyon yoktu (p>0.05). Tartışma ve Sonuç: Biz bu çalışmada demir eksikliği anemisi olan çocuklarda anlamlı bir çinko eksikliği tespit etmedik. Bunu çalışmaya alınan çocuk yaş grubu yelpazesinin geniş olmasına, özellikle büyük çocukların çinko ihtiyacını kuruyemişten ve proteinden karşılayabilmesine bağlıyoruz. Ancak konuyla ilgili daha fazla sayıda hasta içeren çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
