Sin embargo, también tienen la capacidad de producir infecciones superficiales y profundas en humanos y animales, contaminar e infectar granos, frutas, plantas y generar verdaderos desastres ecológicos.
En este apunte se describen los principales agentes de dermatomicosis y dermatofitosis, los síntomas y signos, la forma de realizar el diagnóstico y tratamiento. Se actualiza sobre el reordenamiento taxonómico propuesto para los dermatofitos, donde se abandonó la clsificación de tres géneros por una de nueve. También se revisan las infecciones más frecuentes provocadas por levaduras del género Candida y Malassezia.
