A estabilidade de taludes é a meta de todo processo recorrente de mineração, assim como de encostas naturais, visto que é essencial para a segurança das pessoas nestas atividades. Por isso, o estudo de estabilidade de taludes é indispensável na criação de projetos que lidam com obras em taludes naturais ou taludes artificiais. Cálculos precisos dos coeficientes de segurança de taludes fornecem critérios quantitativos que ajudam na avaliação dos riscos relacionados com as escavações, assim como oferecem parâmetros para prognosticar a possibilidade de rompimento de taludes. Dessa maneira, pode-se impedir ou minimizar desastres naturais e catástrofe em cavas mineiras. Este trabalho oferece o conhecimento necessário sobre o assunto, o qual é essencial para o profissional de engenharia que procura atuar em geotecnia de minas e/ou em obras civis. Os conteúdos abrangem fatores geológicos e geomecânicos harmonizados com métodos de cálculo para a quantificação dos coeficientes de segurança na estabilização dos taludes.
