Introdução: A pele humana interage diretamente com o meio externo. Assim, está susceptível a fatores que podem cursar com mudanças micro e macroscópicas, lesões elementares e proliferativas como as neoplasias. As da pele podem ser subdivididas em melanoma e não melanoma. Estima-se que o câncer de pele corresponda a 30% dos tumores malignos registrados no país, sendo o não melanoma mais comum, com prevalência do carcinoma basocelular (CBC). Objetivos: Descrever a patologia do CBC e sua incidência no Brasil. Material e métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão bibliográfica, com base em pesquisas publicadas entre 2018 e 2022, por meio da busca de dados nas seguintes bases: SciELO, PubMed e Google Scholar. Dessa maneira, a coleta se deu pelos descritores: “carcinoma basocelular” e “pele”. Foram identificados 1070 documentos, sendo excluídos estudos que não contemplassem o objetivo do estudo, critérios de elegibilidade, conclusões pertinentes, relatos de casos, e que não estavam disponíveis em português, inglês ou espanhol. Resultados: CBC apresenta células semelhantes às da camada basal epidérmica, com citoplasma escasso, núcleo basófilo e circundado por um estroma fibroso. Com frequente exposição à radiação solar, eletromagnética e a substâncias químicas, o número de mitoses da pele se difere do padrão homeostático. As lesões iniciais se originam da epiderme e se infiltram na derme, tornando-se lesões pigmentadas devido ao aumento na concentração de melanina e depósito de ferro. No Brasil, o INCA estima 177 mil casos de câncer de pele em 2022, sendo o não melanoma omais incidente. A proporção é de 80,12 casos novos a cada 100 mil homens e 86,65casos novos a cada 100 mil mulheres. Os homens mais afetados pelo CBC são da regiãoSul (123,67/100 mil) e as mulheres da região Centro-Oeste (125,13/100 mil). As regiõesNordeste e Norte são as com menor incidência em ambos os sexos. Conclusão: O CBCé um tipo de neoplasia maligna não melanoma mais prevalente em todo o mundo, comalta incidência em pessoas de pele clara, acima de 40 anos. A exposição prolongada aosagentes neoplásicos (raios ultravioleta) são fatores de risco para quebra do padrãohistológico da pele.
