STUDY OF THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF HOT ROLLING EUTECTOID STEEL USING ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPY AbstractSteels with fully pearlitic microstructure are used for the manufacture of components subjected to severe conditions of mechanical loading often combined with friction. These steels have mechanical performance mainly affected by the interlamellar spacing of pearlite. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the benefits of the use of the Atomic Force Microscopy to determine the interlamellar spacing of pearlite of hot rolling eutectoid steel. Images of the microstructure of samples from the longitudinal and transverse direction of rolling were obtained and processed with the aid of Atomic Force Microscope. As results, stands out the fact that the technique have shown to be a versatile tool for quantitative characterization of the interlamellar spacing of pearlite. It has been observed scattering of the measured values of the interlamellar spacing mainly influenced by the cooling conditions of the steel during austenite-pearlite transformation.
