Los cambios en el uso de suelo y la cobertura vegetal son el componente principal en el deterioro a escala global, regional y local, y han sido documentados como el segundo problema ambiental a nivel global. En México, hay pocas políticas de planificación en el desarrollo territorial de los municipios y una deficiente toma de decisiones en el manejo de los recursos naturales, ejemplo de ello es la microcuenca Tula. El trabajo de investigación tuvo como objetivo, diagnosticar la situación actual y los cambios en la cobertura y uso de suelo de la microcuenca Tula, México por medio del análisis espacial, para conocer sus principales procesos de cambio, con el propósito de diseñar estrategias que permitan un manejo sustentable de sus recursos naturales. El análisis espacial se realizó, a partir de imágenes satelitales Landsat (1992, 2000 y 2017) mediante sistemas de información geográfica. Para identificar los cambios se aplicaron tabulaciones cruzadas y se estimaron las tasas de cambio. En el periodo analizado (25 años), el área agrícola se incrementó 33% y una pérdida de superficie forestal de 22%. Las tasas de cambio y probabilidad de permanencia indicaron que de continuar con la tendencia actual seguirán incrementándose las áreas agrícolas y los cuerpos de agua, así como el abandono de algunas superficies debido a su baja productividad.
El estudio se realizó en las UMA’s de Ajuchitlan-Santiopa, El Limón de Cuauchichinola y Pitzotlan, Morelos, México; de marzo a agosto de 2007, donde se evaluó el hábitat del venado cola blanca (Odocoileus virginianus mexicanus Gmelin, 1788). Para caracterizarlo se estimó el estrato arbóreo y arbustivo aplicando el método de puntos centrados en cuadrantes, del cual se estimó el diámetro de la copa, individuos vegetales en 100 m2, la accesibilidad de las plantas potencialmente consumidas por el venado, la altitud, la pendiente, valor de importancia de especies y familias vegetales e índices de riqueza (Margalef y Menhinick), equidad (Shannon y su inverso, Equidad o Uniformidad) y dominancia (Simpson y su inverso, Berger-Parker y su inverso). Se encontraron 72 especies vegetales, distribuidas en 29 familias, con dominancia de árboles de 68 y 32% de arbustos. Las especies Euphorbia schlechtendalii, Lysiloma divaricata y Acacia cochliacantha, sobresalieron por su valor de importancia de especies, abundancia e importancia antropogénica. La familia Fabaceae fue la más representativa por el valor de importancia de familias. El análisis estadístico reveló que el área basal promedio fue similarentre UMA’s y entre transectos (p > 0.05), así como la densidad de individuos vegetales en 100 m2 (x _ = 23.44), la accesibilidad, pero las especies vegetales fueron altamente accesibles para el venado(μ = 0.48 m), la cobertura de la copa, con μ = 8.89 m2 y la altitud; la pendiente fue diferente entre UMA’s y entre transectos (p < 0.05). El hábitat del venado cola blanca en la Sierra de Huautla con mejores atributos, es aquel que presenta alta diversidad, abundancia y sin dominancia de especies vegetales y con mayor pendiente del terreno; enfocados principalmente en la disponibilidad de alimento y cobertura.
Los bosques de Pinus hartwegii son beneficiados cuando presentan regímenes de fuego apropiados; si esto no ocurre, el uso de quemas prescritas es una alternativa para corregirlos; por lo anterior es relevante el estudio de la ecología del fuego. En el caso particular del Distrito Federal, los bosques proveen de servicios ambientales a los habitantes de la zona sur. Por lo tanto, sobre una ladera del volcán Ajusco se establecieron tres parcelas con quema prescrita de baja intensidad (largo de llama <1 m, velocidad de propagación <3 m min-1), y tres parcelas no quemadas, como testigo; en un diseño experimental completamente al azar (3.6 ha por parcela en promedio). Al año siguiente se obtuvieron datos del sotobosque para calcular la riqueza de especies, los índices de diversidad de Shannon-Wiener y de Simpson, así como los valores de importancia. Los análisis de varianza multivariados y univariados mostraron aumento de la riqueza y diversidad de especies en las parcelas quemadas. Muhlenbergia quadridentata aumentó su densidad y dominancia a mayor radiación, pero Penstemon gentianoides redujo esta última al incrementarse la radiación, lo cual puede relacionarse con una mayor humedad en sitios parcialmente sombreados. La diversidad se eleva por la disminución en la competencia con los zacates, que dominan las localidades no quemadas.
Se evaluó el comportamiento productivo en 100 familias de medios hermanos (FMH) derivadas de las variedades San Miguel y Oaxaca, y las poblaciones San Miguel x Oaxaca y Oaxaca x San Miguel, en macetas a la intemperie en Montecillo, Texcoco, Estado de México. Se realizaron cortes cada cinco semanas en otoño-invierno 2013-2014 y cada cuatro semanas en primavera 2014. Las FMH derivadas de San Miguel x Oaxaca y Oaxaca x San Miguel tuvieron en promedio 10 % mayor rendimiento de materia seca (RMS), tasa absoluta de crecimiento (TAC) y relación hoja:tallo (H:T) por planta, que las FMH derivadas de San Miguel y Oaxaca, en cada corte y estación del año. Las FMH derivadas de San Miguel presentaron mayor número de tallos (NT) en invierno y primavera, y menor altura de planta (AP) en primavera que las de Oaxaca y las FMH derivadas de San Miguel x Oaxaca y Oaxaca Revista Mexicana de x San Miguel. El RMS y TAC en primavera fueron 57 y 33 % más altos que en otoño e invierno. La relación H:T en otoño fue 5 % mayor que en invierno y 30 % mayor que en primavera; el mayor NT y AP se presentaron en primavera. La eficiencia en el uso de la radiación (EUR) fue mayor en primavera que en otoño e invierno con los valores más altos en abril. La variabilidad entre las FMH derivadas de San Miguel x Oaxaca y Oaxaca x San Miguel, indica la posibilidad de seleccionar familias superiores en rendimiento de materia seca.
El objetivo fue determinar el rendimiento y calidad del pasto ovillo (Dactylis glomerata L.), al variar la frecuencia e intensidad de pastoreo. Se evaluaron tres frecuencias (2, 3 y 4 semanas en primavera y verano y 4, 5 y 6 semanas durante otoño) y dos intensidades de pastoreo (severa: 3 a 5 cm y ligera: 6 a 8 cm de altura de forraje residual). Se evaluó el rendimiento de forraje, tasa de acumulación neta de forraje (TANF), composición morfológica y calidad del forraje. El mayor rendimiento acumulado y TANF se presentaron con pastoreo severo cada 4 y 6 semanas y en ambas intensidades cada 3 y 5 semanas. El mayor rendimiento estacional (7,844; 7,699; 7114 kg MS ha-1) se presentó en verano en las mismas frecuencias e intensidades de pastoreo, respectivamente (P<0.05). Durante primavera no se observaron diferencias en rendimiento y TANF entre frecuencias de pastoreo. En otoño la frecuencia de 5 semanas superó a la de 4 (P<0.05), pero no diferente a la de 6 semanas. En todas las estaciones del año la intensidad de pastoreo severo superó a la ligera, siendo diferentes en primavera y verano (P<0.05). En general, el contenido de proteína total y digestibilidad in vitro de la materia seca tendieron a disminuir conforme aumentó el intervalo de pastoreo, siendo en promedio de 20 y 65 %, respectivamente. Se concluye que para obtener el mayor rendimiento y calidad de forraje, los pastoreos deben realizarse cada 4 semanas durante primavera-verano y cada 5 semanas en otoño, a una intensidad severa.
