-This study assessed the effect of successive applications of pig slurry on the dry matter (DM) production and the nitrogen use efficiency of giant missionary grass along two years. A total of 55, 110, 165, 220 and 275 m 3 of pig slurry/ha/year were applied in order to supply 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 kg of total N/ha/year, respectively. These treatments were compared with the ammonium nitrate (200 kg of N/ha/year) source of N and with a control (no nitrogen application).Annually, nitrogen was applied in four divided doses, after the cutting of forage grasses, which takes place five times a year. The total DM yield did not differ between years and increased linearly as a function of pig slurry application, ranging from 2,698 kg of DM/ha/year (control) to 11,371 kg of DM/ha/year (275 m The efficiency index of pig slurry ranged from 0.52 to 0.72.

Palavra-chave: nutrientes; plantio direto, preparo convencional, química do solo.
THE SOIL SOLUTION OF A TYPIC HAPLUSTOX UNDER THREE SOIL MANAGEMENTS AND CROP ROTATIONS
ABSTRACT: The goal of this work was to evaluate the interaction of these two factors in grain production of crops (harvest 2007), and chemical attributes of the soil solution of two soil layers situated among 0 to 20 cm. The experiment was conducted in Passo Fundo, RS, in a Typic
A B S T R A C TThis study evaluated the response of carpet grass to pig slurry fertilization in order to estimate the agronomic efficiency and the plant-available nitrogen (N) of such manure. A field test was conducted during two years, following a randomized block design with six replicates of the treatments: 0, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 kg N ha ). The average agronomic efficiency of the manurewas 15 kg DM kg -1 N and it was lower than that found with ammonium nitrate (27 kg DM kg -1 N).The estimated plant-available N of the pig slurry was similar between the growing years.
