Overall, the normal values of esophageal HRM parameters obtained with the Unisensor catheter resemble those of the previously published series. Marked differences in upper limits of normal were found for parameters related to the esophageal sphincters and TZ length. Users of HRM should be aware of these differences and define pathology based on comparison to appropriate normal values.
Placement of a new non-foreshortening nitinol enteral stent is safe and without major complications. This stent design produces significant relief of obstructive symptoms and improves quality of life in patients with incurable malignant GOO.
Recurrent dysphagia occurs in almost one-third of patients after stent placement. Repeat interventions for stent-related recurrent dysphagia are effective in over 90 % of patients. New innovations in stent design are needed to reduce the risk of stent-related recurrent dysphagia.
