Este trabalho envolve o desenvolvimento de métodos, modelos e ferramentas que suportem o tratamento conjunto de controle e informação na simulação computacional de sistemas de navegação autônoma dotados de comportamento inteligente. O interesse científico no estudo de sistemas de navegação em ambientes desconhecidos e sujeitos ao atendimento de múltiplos objetivos é motivado basicamente pelo seu evidente potencial em aplicações industriais e pelo fato de demandarem a implementação de estratégias de solução complexas. A proposta básica desta dissertação é implementar novos mecanismos de memória e aprendizagem para superar uma série de limitações verificadas em um sistema de navegação já proposto na literatura, que apresenta uma arquitetura neuro-nebulosa modular e hierárquica, de modo que módulos devotados a comportamentos inatos são coordenados por um módulo caracterizado pela presença de memória e capacidade de aprendizado. A introdução destes novos mecanismos permite uma exploração mais abrangente da informação disponível no ambiente de navegação, a qual é utilizada para melhorar o desempenho do robô, possibilitando a introdução de controle sobre sua velocidade de deslocamento e, por conseqüência, simulações em ambientes mais complexos contendo obstáculos móveis e múltiplos robôs. O programa desenvolvido para simulação computacional de ambientes virtuais para sistemas de navegação também é parte integrante dos resultados obtidos.
