This article presents a study of the short story "A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga", by Guimarães Rosa, which investigates how the tragic appears in this literary work and how it might represent a redemption signal to the main character. The study is based on Nietzsche"s concept of the tragedy, constituted by the fusion between two opposite impulses. They are related to Apollo and Dionysus" spirits that represent appearance and essence, respectively.Keywords: Nietzsche; the tragic; "A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga"; Guimarães Rosa.Resumo: Neste artigo é feito um estudo do conto "A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga", de Guimarães Rosa, de modo a se observar como o trágico manifesta-se nessa obra e como ele pode representar um sinal de salvação para a personagem principal. Essas adaptações do tipo palco-para-TV exploram elementos teatrais, televisivos e cinemáticos por meio de cuja combinação as performances ganham sentido na telinha. Este artigo investiga traços distintivos desse tipo específico de adaptação shakespeariana. Dando ênfase a uma adaptação televisiva de Hamlet a qual adaptou uma montagem teatral dirigida por Gregory Doran na Royal Shakespeare Company (2008), discutirei os mecanismos de intermedialidade e os processos de remediação a partir dos quais esse Hamlet se constitui. Ao invés de ser simplesmente um registro da performance para o palco, essa adaptação é uma forma híbrida que não apenas complica distinções tradicionais entre teatro e televisão, mas também desafia noções de que que adaptações do tipo palco-para-TV são secundárias e derivativas.
