O texto que se segue discute o último modelo de interação proposto por Piaget, a integração deste modelo ao modelo de adaptação orgânica e cognitiva apresentado por Piaget na mesma época e a atualidade desta visão à luz das descobertas recentes no campo da Epigenética. A continuidade estrutural entre o orgânico e o cognitivo, isto é, entre a Biologia e a Psicologia, é um do princípios fundamentais da obra de Piaget, um dos eixos em torno dos quais toda a teoria piagetiana se desenrola. A tematização desta continuidade pelo par assimilação/acomodação remete à dialética fundamental da teoria, aos conceitos de interação e de equilibração majorante. O modelo de adaptação orgânica e cognitiva ao meio e, por extensão, a mecânica da evolução das espécies propostos por Piaget sempre se colocaram como um tertius interacionista entre a “inatismo genético” da Síntese Moderna e o empirismo lamarckista. A consequência maior deste modelo é uma teoria de adaptação na qual o jogo de equilibrações orgânicas responsável pela adaptação e pela evolução é guiado pelo comportamento intencional do organismo em seu meio. As descobertas recentes da Biologia, especialmente os estudos epigenéticos, sugerem um modelo de adaptação ontogenética e filogenética muito próximo daquele proposto por Piaget. Essa aproximação nos remete à discussão tanto da atualidade e da centralidade da teoria piagetiana para a Psicologia quanto das consequências da via epigenética de transmissão hereditária de caracteres adquiridos para as diversas disciplinas correlatas.
