Modelos computacionais são comumente empregados para análise estrutural de ferrovias, possibilitando o estudo de pavimentos compostos por diferentes tipos de materiais, tal como o sublastro betuminoso (SLB). Por outro lado, equações empíricas de Talbot et al. (1920) e Japanese National Railways (JNR) ainda são muito utilizadas no dimensionamento de vias, mesmo baseando-se em hipóteses simplificadoras que podem não representar muitas possíveis condições estruturais de campo. O presente artigo avalia/compara a transmissão das tensões nos componentes de diferentes infraestruturas representativas da malha ferroviária brasileira, através de um modelo numérico computacional 3D e das equações de Talbot et al. (1920) e JNR. O comportamento da via com uso de SLB também é discutido. Em algumas situações, as tensões dormente/lastro por Talbot et al. (1920) foram inferiores às do modelo. Em geral, as tensões lastro/sublastro e sublastro/subleito calculadas através das equações analíticas foram superiores aos valores calculados com o modelo, sendo a JNR menos conservadora dentre as equações utilizadas. O SLB aumentou a rigidez da via, reduziu as tensões verticais e a relação de tensão desviadora/confinante no subleito.
Esse trabalho objetiva comparar as formas de representação, por meio de modelagem numérica computacional pelo Método dos Elementos Discretos (MED), do lastro ferroviário, quando submetido ao ensaio da caixa de cisalhamento direto. Os parâmetros de maior variabilidade na literatura são analisados: coeficiente de atrito, módulo de elasticidade e coeficiente de resistência ao rolamento. Essa análise ocorre com a finalidade de compreender como estes afetam o resultado macroscópico final da simulação de calibração, verificando-se tanto a tensão de cisalhamento quanto a variação volumétrica. Comparam-se modelos compostos por partículas esféricas e poliédricas digitalizadas, sendo possível verificar a dificuldade do modelo composto por partículas esféricas em alcançar o nível de tensão esperado, adicionalmente à variação volumétrica, não se conseguindo representar a contração inicial vista em laboratório. Por fim, foram possíveis melhores calibrações empregando-se o modelo composto por partículas poliédricas digitalizadas, que proveram melhor descrição do nível de tensão e variação volumétrica do material de lastro.
