Apesar de questionada e esquecida por muito tempo devido à associação da sua imagem à ditadura militar, a memória dos ex-combatentes brasileiros da Segunda Guerra Mundial foi e é muito comemorada por suas comunidades de memória, resultando em grande número de monumentos, em especial o Monumento Nacional aos Mortos da Segunda Guerra Mundial (MNMSGM-RJ), popularmente conhecido como "Monumento aos Pracinhas", objeto deste trabalho. O presente artigo, produto da pesquisa realizada no programa de especialização em Patrimônio e História da Universidade Estadual de Londrina, visa analisar o conjunto monumental em sua integralidade, ou seja, o monumento físico em conjunto com seu aparato imaterial; o objetivo é perceber que narrativa histórica e memorial o MNMSGM pretendeu e pretende contar, a partir de todos os seus sentidos: material, simbólico e funcional.
