En este trabajo se presentan los resultados de un análisis sobre las competencias y habilidades que serán eventualmente más relevantes para la formación de los futuros geógrafos y geógrafas involucrados en la transición y la gestión de sociedades bajas en carbono. La información analizada se basa en un amplio cuestionario respondido por diferentes profesionales que trabajan en la gestión ambiental y territorial en tres territorios europeos, Finlandia, Polonia y Cataluña (España). Se describe el proceso de diseño colaborativo del cuestionario, su diseminación en los tres territorios analizados y la calidad de los resultados obtenidos en términos metodológicos y estadísticos. A partir de los resultados, se identifican no solo las habilidades y destrezas más necesarias, sino también las diferencias entre estos territorios europeos. Entre los hallazgos, destaca el acuerdo general que las “habilidades blandas”, en oposición a las “habilidades duras”, son fundamentales para los futuros profesionales que abordarán políticas de transición hacia sociedades bajas en carbono. Los futuros profesionales tendrán un rol fundamental en el despliegue de políticas de mitigación y adaptación frente al cambio climático.
