Pourtant, le roman historique de Twain bénéficie d’un regain d’intérêt récent chez lecteurs et universitaires. Le présent article se livre à une comparaison contextualisée des lectures présentes ou passées, en se focalisant sur la manière dont Twain « américanise » Jeanne en puisant dans les ressorts du « tall-tale ». Conclusion est tirée que l’ouvrage pourrait bien être plus en phase avec une culture ouverte aux formes hybrides qui se jouent des genres.
