Con el fin de tomar decisiones sustentadas en evidencia, este trabajo presenta herramientas orientadas a evaluar las oportunidades y amenazas que enfrenta el sector energético. Su objetivo principal fue exhibir los desarrollos en el modelado prospectivo en LEAP (Low Emissions Analysis Program) de la integración de vehículos eléctricos (EV) e instalaciones fotovoltaicas de generación distribuida conectadas a la red en sistemas energéticos regionales como el de la provincia de Mendoza, en Argentina, a través del ejercicio de proposición de escenarios como posibles trayectorias a largo plazo y no como meros pronósticos azarosos. Los resultados indican que se produciría un cambio significativo en la configuración de la matriz eléctrica provincial como consecuencia de una alta penetración de este tipo de instalaciones de generación distribuida. Por otro lado, se evidencia que en una configuración Vehicle to Grid (V2G), la demanda de electricidad de los vehículos eléctricos será mayor que la cantidad de electricidad que inyectan a la red, lo que requiere la evaluación de estrategias adicionales que fomenten y regulen su uso. Además, se constata que la sustitución de vehículos de combustión interna por vehículos eléctricos como medida tendiente a la reducción de emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero sería ineficaz actuando de forma aislada de una política de transformación de la matriz eléctrica con incorporación de generación de energía a partir fuentes renovables.
