No âmbito dos serviços assumidos pelo Sistema Único da Saúde (SUS), o trabalho das equipes vinculadas a Atenção Primária, vem sinalizando a presença cotidiana e significativa de demandas em saúde mental. Este artigo apresenta resultados de um estudo que teve como objetivo, identificar ações de cuidado em saúde mental desenvolvidas por equipes multiprofissionais que atuam na Atenção Primaria. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, que teve a participação de 36 profissionais, que integram equipes de municípios da Macrorregião de Saúde do Grande Oeste no Estado de Santa Catarina. Para a coleta dos dados, realizou-se uma entrevista seguindo um roteiro de questões sobre as principais ações desenvolvidas. Para tabulação das respostas, utilizou-se a análise lexical de dados textuais, através de um Software denominado Iramuteq que auxiliou na interpretação das respostas. Dentre os resultados obtidos, houve destaque para a realização de grupos temáticos, dentre os quais, grupo do bem estar, tabagismo e alcoolismo, uso e abuso de psicofármacos e controle do peso. Observou-se que, as ações de saúde mental incluídas no desenvolvimento dos grupos, são coordenadas pelos psicólogos, e existe a necessidade do fortalecimento da interdisciplinaridade no contexto estudado. Considera-se como uma fragilidade, o fato de ações, como o Apoio Matricial e os Projetos Terapêuticos Singulares, praticamente não serem citados no estudo. Sugere-se a incorporação da Educação Permanente, nas práticas cotidianas das equipes, para que estejam em consonância com as diretrizes relativas à Atenção Primária em Saúde.
