Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o impacto da gestão das Instituições de Ensino Superior Privadas (IES) sobre as condições em que o trabalho docente é exercido nestas instituições. O estudo foi realizado junto a docentes de uma universidade e dois centros universitários situados o Rio de Janeiro. O referencial teórico abrange o estudo sobre a flexibilidade das relações trabalho em geral e, em particular, a flexibilidade conferida ao o trabalho docente à luz dos modelos de gestão das IES privadas. A metodologia escolhida para este estudo baseia-se em uma abordagem qualitativa. Foi realizada uma pesquisa de campo, com o uso de roteiros de entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os sujeitos investigados nesta pesquisa são docentes e coordenadores de curso nas três instituições analisadas. É possível perceber, a partir deste estudo, que há uma relação direta do recente processo de mercantilização do ensino superior com a precarização das condições de trabalho do docente, pois aparentemente, neste mercado, o principal objetivo das organizações é a maximização do lucro, independente das consequências geradas sobre os outros atores envolvidos (alunos e professores). Portanto, se para maximizar os lucros, mesmo que o serviço a ser oferecido seja com menor qualidade, são reduzidos os gastos com qualificação e remuneração docente, entre outros.
