A comparative assessment of salbutamol inhalers has shown that all licensed products currently available in the United Kingdom comply with the British Pharmacopoeia monograph for salbutamol pressurised inhalers and that there are no clinically significant differences between the various generic brands. Differences were observed between the colours of the inhalers which may cause confusion for patients. Generic manufacturers have been advised of this and say that they will be altering the design and appearance of some brands to ensure that the colour of the inhaler and the design of the mouthpiece will be consistent.
