Otolaryngology -Head and Neck SurgeryAugust 1996then allowed to adhere to fibronectin-coated cell culture inserts for a period of 20 minutes, after which the inserts were washed twice with PBS and fixed in 10% formaldehyde. To enhance visualization, the cells were stained with Harris' hematoxylin and adherent cells were counted with use of a microscope reticle (10-1mm 2 fields per trial; duplicate trials per cell line). GRGDNP inhibited the attachment of pleomorphic adenoma cell lines to fibronectin in a dose-dependent manner. Similar results were obtained with the cell lines from normal parotid tissue. GRGDNP-dependent decreases of cellular attachment to fibronectin were statistically significant (p < 0,05 or better; Student paired t test). These results suggest that adhesion of pleomorphic adenoma cells to the extracellular matrix is mediated by integrin receptors and may be a factor in the development of recurrent pleomorphic adenoma.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
