This article describes a seminar series for general practice residents dealing with communication, interpersonal relations, self-image, and patient-dentist interactions. Objectives, content, and methods of evaluation are presented.
The interactions of a social worker in the hospital dental department include community outreach programs, outpatient and inpatient care coordination, counseling and education. The social worker is available to work with patients who may require extra time, such as patients with handicapping conditions, patients who have a dental phobia, or patients with medically compromising conditions. The position is cost‐effective to the department.
