A pesar de los numerosos estudios e investigaciones realizados por lingüistas y profesionales expertos en la enseñanza del español como segunda lengua o lengua extranjera, existe todavía a día de hoy un gran vacío de información con respecto a la enseñanza de la materia a niños y adolescentes, así como respecto al uso del texto literario como recurso dentro del aula. Asimismo, apenas se encuentran estudios sobre sendas vertientes unificadas como una sola: la enseñanza de ELE a niños y adolescentes a través de los textos literarios. Por este motivo, este trabajo presenta un estado de la cuestión sobre la importancia de tener en consideración las características de los niños y adolescentes como aprendientes de una lengua extranjera y cómo el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje difiere del de los adultos, unido a las ventajas y desventajas del uso del texto literario como recurso en el aula de ELE.
