Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) is a dipeptidyl peptidase transmembrane bound enzyme. Generally, ACE inhibitors are used for the cardiovascular disorders. ACE inhibitors are primary agents for the management of hypertension, so these cannot be avoided for further use. The present Review focuses on the implications of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors in neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, stroke, and diabetic neuropathy. ACE inhibitors such as ramipril, captopril, perindopril, quinapril, lisinopril, enalapril, and trandolapril have been documented to ameliorate the above neurodegenerative disorders. Neurodegeneration occurs not only by angiotensin II, but also by other endogenous factors, such as the formation of free radicals, amyloid beta, immune reactions, and activation of calcium dependent enzymes. ACE inhibitors interact with the above cellular mechanisms. Thus, these may act as a promising factor for future medicine for neurological disorders beyond the cardiovascular actions. Central acting ACE inhibitors can be useful in the future for the management of neuropathic pain due to following actions: (i) ACE-2 converts angiotensinogen to angiotensin(1-7) (hepatapeptide) which produces neuroprotective action; (ii) ACE inhibitors downregulate kinin B1 receptors in the peripheral nervous system which is responsible for neuropathic pain. However, more extensive research is required in the field of neuropathic pain for the utilization of ACE inhibitors in human.
Uterine leiomyosarcoma is a rare uterine malignancy that arises from the smooth muscles of uterine wall. It accounts for only 1-2% of uterine malignancies. We report a case of a 60-year-old female who presented with postmenopausal bleeding and was diagnosed later to be a case of leiomyosarcoma of uterus. The diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma is made by histopathological examination, and surgery is the only treatment. The prognosis for female with uterine sarcoma primarily depends on the extent of disease at the time of diagnosis and the mitotic index.
Iron-sulfur cluster assembly 1 (ISCA1) is one of the essential proteins operating in the mitochondrial iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster biogenesis pathway. We reported the variant c.259G > A [p.(Glu87Lys)] in homozygous state in exon 4 of the gene as the likely cause of multiple mitochondrial dysfunction syndrome 5 in a previous publication. We now report the third patient with the same phenotype and variant, further supporting the possibility of a founder event. Our observation confirms the clinical presentation associated with a probable founder variant in this condition.
ITPA related epileptic encephalopathy (epileptic encephalopathy, early infantile, 35) is a rare inborn error of metabolism. All reported individuals with this condition, including the present case manifest global developmental delay, seizures, progressive postnatal microcephaly, hypotonia, thin corpus callosum, cerebral atrophy, delayed myelination and white matter changes in posterior limb of internal capsule. Cataract and dilated cardiomyopathy are other characteristic findings.Currently, a single publication describes this condition in four families. Three truncating and two missense variants in ITPA have been identified in these families. We hereby report another family with ITPA related disorder and review the genotype and phenotype of the reported subjects.

Wastewater is not a liability, instead considered as a resource for microbial fermentation and value-added products. Most of the wastewater contains various nutrients like nitrates and phosphates apart from the organic constituents that favor microbial growth. Microalgae are unicellular aquatic organisms and are widely used for wastewater treatment. Various cultivation methods such as open, closed, and integrated have been reported for microalgal cultivation to treat wastewater and resource recovery simultaneously. Microalgal growth is affected by various factors such as sunlight, temperature, pH, and nutrients that affect the growth rate of microalgae. Microalgae can consume urea, phosphates, and metals such as magnesium, zinc, lead, cadmium, arsenic, etc. for their growth and reduces the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). The microalgal biomass produced during the wastewater treatment can be further used to produce carbon-neutral products such as biofuel, feed, bio-fertilizer, bioplastic, and exopolysaccharides. Integration of wastewater treatment with microalgal bio-refinery not only solves the wastewater treatment problem but also generates revenue and supports a sustainable and circular bio-economy. The present review will highlight the current and advanced methods used to integrate microalgae for the complete reclamation of nutrients from industrial wastewater sources and their utilization for value-added compound production. Furthermore, pertaining challenges are briefly discussed along with the techno-economic analysis of current pilot-scale projects worldwide.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
